The Miracle of Life

The Miracle of Life….remember that video? I don’t know about you, but I had to watch it in my college biology class and I know others who saw it in high school. It showed the process of birth from conception through the time the child came out. Many people I know were scarred for life after watching that.

Well, we got our own version of The Miracle of Life at the goat site last Friday. We were just out visiting and looking around when the farm manager pulled one of the goats out of the pen and said that she was about to give birth. I have managed to miss every birthing that has occurred out there so far – about 30 – and I assumed I wouldn’t get lucky this time either. Lo and behold, about 10 minutes later, there was a baby goat laying on the ground. The whole process was pretty quick and my male supervisor of course had to make a comment about women over dramatizing the situation if it was that easy for goats. Typical male. I haven’t seen very many animals be born in my lifetime, and this was certainly my first goat birthing observation. One for the books.
